Recasting Shadows Billboards Gallery

PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION

In Recasting Shadows, I delved into the intricacies of my own family's history, where stories are woven from fragments of memories, gossip between sisters, and the resonance of photographs stored in shoeboxes. Through a series of portraits I explored how personal narratives pass down through generations to become an indelible part of identity.

At the heart of Recasting Shadows lies the tale of displacement from Iran and the unfulfilled dreams that linger in the collective consciousness. I was inspired by a collection of pre-1979 Iran photographs, generously shared by my aunt Mehri. These family portraits serve as a key to unravelling my personal journey in understanding what it truly means to be Persian. The Substation Billboard Gallery is located outdoors on the east wall of the building, parallel to the train line.
